Senate Passes Wage Discrimination Bill

A bill that should be on the president’s desk in the very near future that will eliminate  pay inequality between genders.Called the Ledbetter bill after Lilly  Ledbetter, a woman who worked her whole life at a tire plant and did not find out she was being paid significantly less than the male workers until her retirement.

Topic: Should  the Obama administration work to eliminate gender pay inequality?

Support:Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, quoted a saying the bill”sends the message  that the administration stands for equality and fairness” Senator Barbara Mukulski of Maryland  said “we are finally free.”  Also backing the bill is Marcia Greenberger, co-president of the National Women’s Law Center.

SOURCE  Analysis:The article itself came from an AP author, presumably fairly reliable. The audience is the general public interested in the new administration’s follow through on tough issues.

Usefulness:I found this information very useful, because Obama has wasted no time in tackling the question of pay inequality. The article was created to let the public know what actions were going to be taken, and how fast. There is a link provided to the congressional document  http://thomas.loc.gov. When I checked this link, I found the bill has been signed into law, which has not yet been made available because it is so new.
