What Kind Of Economic Stimulus Do American Women Want?

In this article, Ruth Rosen claims that women remain pawns in the struggle between political parties. Many thinking women wonder where the jobs are for women in the stimulus planning, pushing for spending on healthcare and education over roads and bridges.http://www.alternet.org/reproductivejustice/127613/what_kind_of_economic_stimulus_do_american_women_want/?page=entire

Support: Advocates of women’s equality in the “new” New Deal, Abigail Adams’ famous plea to her husband to ” Remember the ladies, all men would be tyrants if they could,if no attention is paid to the ladies, we are determined to foment rebellion, and will not hold ourselves bound to any laws in which we have no voice or representation.” Linda Hirshman, widely quoted op-ed author, wondering “Where are jobs for women in the stimulus planning?”

Source Analysis: Ms. Rosen submitted this piece to Alternet.org, presumably to provide her expertise to the news magazine to uphold its mission to inspire action and advocacy. It is not known wheter she was paid for the piece. The site is frequented bypeople looking for news beyond what the mainstream media offers.

Usefulness: Ms. Rosen maintains that Obama “gets it” as far as what women need to have happen for them. However, the political struggle he faces to get anything done is immense. The Republicans do not typically agree with Obama’s measures, and he is often forced to concede on women’s issues to win their support. This is very uesful information. My favorite part of the piece is Abigail Adams speech to her husband, and I would like to include her plea in my presentation.
